About The studio

This design studio was founded on the belief that beautiful landscapes are achievable for everyone and begin with thoughtful and practical design.

We work with the homeowner to create outdoor spaces that feel natural to architecture of the home, the character of the site, and the way people live outside. Each project is approached individually, with the client’s style and needs central to the design. Careful attention to layout, planting materials, and how the landscape will evolve over time are all considered.

Our work bridges the very large gap between landscape architecture firms and traditional garden service providers. Many properties can benefit greatly from a clear design vision and well considered execution strategy, without the complexity and expense of a full architectural process.

By combining design thinking, strong horticultural knowledge, and practical installation experience, we create landscapes that both refined and achievable.

HOW WE WORK

  1. Initial Consultation

Every project begins with an on-site consultation. During this meeting we will walk the property together, discuss goals for the space, and explore the unique opportunities within the landscape. We review layout ideas, planting direction and possibilities, materials, and overall design direction while considering the unique conditions of the site - including exposure, slope, privacy concerns, animal predation, and circulation. This meeting helps establish the vision for the landscape and determines the next steps. New client meetings can be scheduled on line below. Initial consultations are $250 and will be followed up by an email recap of the meeting and suggestions on how to best move forward.

  2. Concept Design

For clients ready to move forward, we then begin the process of developing a landscape concept design and overall direction for the project. Deliverables at this point vary depending on the needs of the client. A scaled drawing of the property will be produced (not all clients will need a drawing) to explore and visualize spatial layout, develop a planting plan and start to consider materials. At this point the client will also receive a Google Slideshow of “vibe” inspiration, planting examples, specific plants, and material selection options. Concept design work and all work going forward is billed hourly at $175. A typical Concept Design with a drawing takes about 10 hours.

  3. Design Refinement

From here it is recommended that the client and Erin meet again onsite to discuss the Concept Design and go over the Google Slideshow. Together we can make decisions based on the information presented in the slideshow, look at samples together, and even mark spaces out with spray paint to gain further clarity. Once the design is refined, Erin will develop a planting plan and materials schedule and make the necessary adjustments to the Google Slideshow and/or drawing so you will have the bulk of the information that you will need to get your project started. Design Refinement typically takes 5 hours.

  4. Installation Support (Optional)

Almost all clients chose to have Installation support. Clients are welcome to work with the contractor/landscaper of their choice, or we can recommend trusted installation crews that we regularly collaborate with. For those who want guidance during installation, we offer project support services including contractor coordination, regular site visits, material selection and delivery coordination, and design clarification as questions arise. Erin typically sources all plant material personally to ensure quality and oversees delivery and precise placement on-site to guarantee the landscape reflects the original design intent. Installation support typically takes 5 -10 hours.
